Input guide
The editor accepts ordinary Unicode text, punctuation, contractions, hyphenated words and multiple paragraphs. A contraction or internally hyphenated term is treated consistently as one word. Punctuation and standalone emoji do not become words. The tool is designed for at least 2,000 words and does not alter what you enter.
How to understand your results
Words is the primary count. Character totals use visible text elements rather than raw UTF-16 units. Reading and speaking times divide the word total by the selected words-per-minute estimate. Top words are normalized without changing the editor and omit common function words so subject vocabulary is easier to inspect.
